Own IT Solution

To reduce food loss and food waste

The effective work of employees in Stores is not only about the results, but also about the personal comfort of employees during the performance of their duties

The METRO team has developed its own mobile application that automates the manual daily activities of employees, creates new tasks and prioritizes them according to the greatest impact on the business.

Own IT Solution

What is MStore?

This is a mobile application for the efficient work of employees in stores, also for planning and optimizing procurement processes. The application evaluates the shelf life of products and the demand (or its absence) for goods, helps to comply with the FIFO (“First IN - First OUT”) principle: the products that first entered the warehouse should be the first to go on sale.

The development of the application began in October 2019, in April 2020 a pilot of the project was carried out in 7 stores, and in September of the same year, we started the implementation of the App in all stores. In April 2021, the process was completed. 96 stores and 3 distribution logistics centers are currently working with MStore.

Changes in the company after the release of the application

The amount of decommissioned and disposed goods decreased by 48%;

50% less time is needed to check expiration dates on the shelves;

47% less time is needed to print and place posters and price tags.

25% less paper is needed to check expiration dates.

Shelf stock replenishment is happening 56% faster.

How does the MStore app help employees?

METRO's solution is unique because similar applications on the market do not include detailed analytics and machine learning for operational procedures and task prioritization. Right at the shelf with goods, an employee can:

  • Check expiration dates
  • Arrange items on the shelf
  • Check the presence of goods on the upper racks and cells
  • Check the price tags
  • Make markdown on the goods
  • Carry out inventory adjustments
